Ian's First Visit to the Doctor

Ian had his first checkup today and I have to admit that I was extremely surprised at the outcome.  For those of you know know us well, you may remember that doctors had an issue with the weight of each of our previous kids.  The height to weight ratio didn't match the charts or they were not gaining weight as fast as the doctors thought they should be.  And for those of you who know us, you know that our kids are insanely healthy and all doing great!  That said, I was prepared for the weight talk again today when low and behold, little Ian had regained all but 2 ounces of the weight he lost after birth (making him 10 pounds 2 ounces)!  Because of that, we do not have to go back until he's two months old!  Woo hoo!

The doctor checked him over and pronounced him good to go.  He does have a clogged tear duct and small nasal passages that keep him congested, but both will go away as he grows older.  We are also going to be seeing an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist to have the frenulum clipped . (That's the piece of skin that is under your tongue which connects it to the bottom of your mouth.) The doctors in the hospital did not get to us and we were not prepared to wait another day for that to happen.  As frustrating as it was, we are just happy that it's finally going to be done. While Ian nurses like a champ now, the frenulum thing is starting to cause a few issues with his latching on and it can cause speech problems as he grows.  Since he's so young, we decided to take care of it now instead of waiting.

I also have to give a shout out to my other wonderful kids.  We had to take the whole gang to the doctors office and they were all wonderful!  There was another child in the well waiting area who was a little terror. He kept running around and would not listen to his mom or his grandmother.  His grandmother kept remarking on how well behaved our kids were compared to her two year old grandson!  His mother told me that her oldest behaved but this one did not. She would talk to him, but not get up and do anything.  I sat there thinking that if Ashton or Brenna were doing what he was doing, I'd have their butt in time out regardless of the fit they threw!  Sometimes seeing other's out of control children makes you appreciate yours so much more!
