Yesterday we spent the day at the hospital. My mother-in-law, Nancy, was scheduled to have tumors in her abdomen removed. We knew that the tumors were most likely cancerous, but in the back of our minds we were still hoping that the doctor would say they were benign.
Around 11:30 the surgeon came out and told us that it was malignant and he was able to remove 99.9% of the tumor. The official diagnosis matched the preliminary. It was ovarian cancer. After doing all the research last week, I knew that this was what the doctor would say, but it was scary hearing it officially confirmed. Currently the tumor is off being looked at. We'll hear stages and treatments later this week. We know for certain that she'll have to have chemo after she heals.
For all you ladies out there, I want to encourage you to go read about ovarian cancer. It's rarely caught at stage one because there are no major symptoms. The symptoms stated mirror the fatigue and bloating of PMS. In Nancy's case, she didn't have any symptoms until she found a tumor in her abdomen. Be aware of your body and talk with your OB/GYN about this.
As for right now, please continue to pray for our family. We were comforted knowing that so many of you were already doing so. Nancy will be in the hospital for 8-9 more days. She is a fighter and will not be kept down long by this illness!
