Independence Day

Yesterday, our church (East Pickens Baptist) along with the county of Pickens put on a 4th of July celebration for the town. Daniel and I, as well as many, many others from the church volunteered time, sweat and in Daniel's case a bit of blood. It turned out to be a huge success.

Last year, Daniel and I took Sarah to the celebration. All the rides are free. They hand out free snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy and lemonade. A few stages are set up and people just go around visiting and watching the kids have a great time. It's a great outreach to the community and just happens to be the way that Daniel and I found East Pickens. We were so impressed with how this one church came together to put on this celebration for the town and how caring and friendly they all were. We were going to another church, but didn't feel at home there. And one Sunday we said enough and tried out East Pickens.

It was also fun, because Sarah was able to help out at some of the booths. I signed up to help do ride registration with Sarah. Daniel ended up staying in the drink booth most of the day. They were raising money to go to Romania. By the end of the night, many of the drinks were sold out and the packed trailer was almost empty! This morning, we are all slowly coming to life. It's 9:30ish right now and Sarah just came to life - if you can call her present state life-like! Ashton just started to squeak in his bed.
Anyway, I didn't take many pictures but here are a few...
Sarah peeking back at me before the fireworks began.
She worked so hard helping her Dad sell drinks.
Sarah takes such good pictures!
Ashton sat in the stroller most of the evening and did not fuss much.
Dad and Ashton.
And this is my favorite! Every time Ashton is in his stroller, he grabs his
toes and starts sucking on them! It never fails to attract attention.
